Animals as Transportation in History
An Overview
Throughout history, animals have played a vital role in the transportation of people and goods. From the earliest civilizations to the present day, animals have been used to carry burdens, pull carts and wagons, and even provide transportation in areas where motorized vehicles cannot go.
Horses, Mules, and Donkeys
Horses, mules, and donkeys have been used for transporting goods in areas that are not motorized. These animals are sure-footed and can travel long distances without tiring. They are also able to carry heavy loads, making them ideal for transporting goods over rough terrain.
Camels
Camels were the preferred animals of transportation in many arid regions where water was scarce. These animals are able to go long periods of time without drinking, and they can also store water in their humps. Camels are also able to travel over rough terrain, making them ideal for transporting goods in these areas.
Economic Importance
Animals have also been used to provide meat, whether farmed or hunted. They have also been used to pull plows and other agricultural equipment. Until the arrival of mechanized transport, animals were the primary means of transportation for people and goods.
