Oilers Begin Best-of-Seven Series with Vancouver Canucks

Wednesday May 8 2024 915 PM

The Edmonton Oilers begin their second-round series with the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday, looking to build on their success in the first round against the Los Angeles Kings. The Oilers won the series in six games, with Connor McDavid leading the way with five goals and nine assists.

The Canucks, meanwhile, upset the Calgary Flames in the first round, winning the series in seven games. Elias Pettersson led the Canucks with four goals and six assists in the series.

The two teams are familiar with each other, having played each other four times during the regular season. The Oilers won three of those games, including a 5-2 victory in their final regular season meeting on March 28.

The Oilers are hoping to make a deep run into the playoffs this year, after being eliminated in the first round last year. The Canucks, meanwhile, are looking to make their first appearance in the Stanley Cup Final since 2011.

The series is expected to be a close one, with both teams evenly matched. The Oilers have the advantage of home-ice advantage in Games 1 and 2, but the Canucks will be looking to steal a game in Edmonton before heading home for Games 3 and 4.

The series is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, May 8, at Rogers Place in Edmonton. Game 2 will be played on Friday, May 10, also in Edmonton. The series will then shift to Vancouver for Games 3 and 4 on Sunday, May 12, and Tuesday, May 14.

If necessary, Game 5 will be played in Edmonton on Thursday, May 16, Game 6 will be played in Vancouver on Saturday, May 18, and Game 7 will be played in Edmonton on Monday, May 20.
